Shiyao Ding, Assistant Professor

Dr. Shiyao Ding is a multiagent systems researcher with working experience in both academia and industry. Currently, he is an assistant professor at Kyoto University. His research is about multi-agent systems, consensus informatics, reinforcement learning and its industry applications like edge cloud computing. He was awarded Best Student Paper Award for his research on graph convolutional reinforcement learning at IEEE-ICA 2021. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Informatics from Kyoto University, Sep. 2022.

2025/10/13 The research work by Mr. Kento Ueda (M2), whom I have been assisting in supervision, and his collaborators was accepted.

2025/10/7 I was invited by the Japan Office of the National Research Council Canada (NRC) to attend the Friends of NRC reception, where I had a good conversation with NRC President Mitch Davies and other representatives from industry and academia.
2025/10/3 My essay on human–AI coexistence, titled “The Role of Humans in the Era of Human–AI Coexistence,” was published in the Kyoto University Engineering Newsletter.
2025/9/3~9/5 I served as an organizer for the workshop “Creating My Personal AI: A Challenge toward Individualized Large Language Models,” successfully launched @ the Kyoto University Summer Design School, in collaboration with colleagues from industry and academia.
2025/8/23 The research work of Mr. Watanabe, a fourth-year undergraduate student whom I have been assisting in supervision, has been accepted to the following international conference in the field of artificial intelligence.

2025/6/26~27 I gave a poster presentation of "Asynchronous of Thought: A Multithreaded Framework for Parallel Reasoning with LLMs" @ The research meeting of the JST CREST Trusted AI project ( TKP Garden City Chiba)
2025/5/20 We successfully held the 2nd Drone Routing Problems (DRP) Challenge @ AAMAS 2025 in Detroit. A total of 27 participants from 16 teams joined the competition, marking a 208% increase compared to the previous edition.
2025/2/28 We concluded a joint research agreement with Accenture Japan on "consensus building and negotiation among multi-agents using large language models", with Professor Ito as the principal investigator and myself as the research supervisor.

2024/12/25 I presented a poster titled “Toward How Pre-Trained Models Benefit Decision-Making in Open-World Games” at the Kyoto University Excellence Workshop 2024.
2024/11/20 I was appointed as a member of the PRIMA Steering Committee and will serve as Secretary-General until 2029.
2024/11/18~24 As the Local Arrangement Chair, We successfully hosted PRICAI2024 and PRIMA2024 @ the Clock Tower Centennial Hall, Kyoto University, which gathered more than 500 participants.
2024/11/1 I was appointed as a Local Organizing Committee member for the JSAI 2025 Annual Conference.
2024/10/23~29 As a member of the JST SICORP project, I was invited by the NRC (National Research Council Canada) to visit Toronto and Ottawa for one week, during which I visited the NRC, Carleton University, and GRC Health to engage in research discussions and exchange ideas.
2024/9/3~9/5 I served as an organizer for the workshop “Developing LLM-Based AI Systems for Business Process Improvement and Everyday Problem Solving,” successfully launched @ the Kyoto University Summer Design School, in collaboration with colleagues from industry and academia.
2024/9/9~12 As part of the FY2024 Asia Informatics Seminar, I visited Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU) together with professors from our graduate school.
2024/8/1 As an organizer, I successfully hosted the 5th Workshop on Consensus and Co-Creation, organized by the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), and gave a presentation on “Decision-Making Challenges in the Era of Large Language Models.”

2024/5/9 Our first Drone Routing Problems (DRP) Challenge＠AAMAS2024 was successfully held @ New Zealand. We gathered 10 teams with total 13 participants at this time.

2024/3/20~23 With the participation of the 2023 Asian Informatics Seminar, I visited the Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University together with professors of the Graduate School of Informatics, and gave a presentation on “Decision Making in the Era of Large Language Models.
2024/1/26 Based on the joint research with the ESL institute of Panasonic Corporation, our proposal “Drone Routing Problems (DRP) Challenge” was selected for the competition at AAMAS2024, which is the top conference in the multi-agent domain.
